The 2019 Sweater Superlatives

Updated: Oct 29, 2019

This fall season gift yourself a new sweater from my list of 2019’s coolest sweaters to keep warm. This list of superlatives was made with styling and photography help from my loyal followers. Follow @whitneywisdomblog on Instagram for article promotions, behind the scenes shots, and other exciting fashion moments! Please enjoy!

1. Best layering piece: Putting a striped turtleneck or mockneck under a solid corduroy dress is not putting Baby in the corner; because the colors of the turtleneck are bold enough to grab attention, just like Baby. To set the record straight, I had a version of this sweater in the second grade. This 2019 color combo reminds me of an 80s arcade game logo. Defender, anyone?

As seen in: upper right hand corner.

2. Most desired print: Florals are forever. Black + a milky coffee color shows a modern Victorian influence. As seen in: row 2, column 2.

3. Best texture: Chevron is a modern update to the much loved cable. Please & thank you!

As seen in: row 2-3, column 1.

4. Best detail: Patches werk. Elbow patched sweaters are uber preppy, but don’t have to be. Make ‘em punk with chains, fish nets, rough denim, and rugged footwear.

As seen in: row 3, column 2.

5. Best cuddler: A wearable furry gremlin. Come December, who wouldn’t want that?

As seen in: lower right hand corner.

6. Hottest trend: Playing with proportions in an otherwise shapeless sweater can be accomplished via the color brick road. And it is a (cashmere) vibe! The red + gray combo looks straight out of a J. Crew catalog.

As seen in: upper left hand corner.

7. Neatest sleeve interest: I am all for a balloon sleeve, a tiered sleeve etc. but, an unexpected printed sleeve makes print mixing easy. (Pretty sure Free People invented this.) A contrast built into one single piece makes a statement.

As seen in: row 3, column 4.

8. Best conversational: People are gonna talk…might as well be about how cute your clothes are! Pugs, penguins, lake scenes, and rock bands. Anything that can be screened on a t-shirt should be knitted into a sweater. Just try to keep the details to a min. or they’ll get lost in your sweater’s thick yarn.

As seen in: row 1, column 2.

9. Fall 2019’s “it” colors: Here we go: chestnut/cinnamon/vanilla! I want to eat these colors…in the form of a donut.

As seen in: row 2-3, column 3.

10. Easiest grab n’ go: Ponchos are the Sizzlies of sweaters. You can quote me on that.

As seen in: row 1, column 3.
