Summer meets Winter. Summer likes winter but her parents don’t approve. Winter seems cold and distant. But then summer and winter have a beautiful baby. We’ll call her Fall. Fall grows up and takes the best qualities from each of her parents. Now is fall. Now is when no one knows what to wear because it really just depends if the sun decides to show face. My solution: sweaters and sandals. I know a lot of you want to race right into your winter boots but need I remind you, boots season extends into March and can even dip into April. There is Plenty. Of. Time.
The main thing with a little sweaters and sandals soiree is the practicality! By definition it is fall - we want to be wrapped up in our coziest sweaters. But in reality, it’s still a balmy 75 degrees and sandals help keep our internal temps in check. Really this pairing of summer shoes and winter knits is not as hard to pull off as it seems. As always, I am here to provide the Wisdom.
Solid Sweater + Worn in Jeans + Slide on Sandals: The equation to the left is about as simple as outfits come. Dialing your look back to just the core pieces can be exhilarating and a good way to mix it up for my maximalists out there. The first step in unveiling your signature style is by wearing an outfit that could work on anybody and then making it your own. A solid sweater can take on many shapes depending on how you tuck or untuck it. Worn in jeans with slide on sandals allow the magic of summer nights to linger in the air.
Cardigans + Slingbacks + Shoulder Bags: The baggy casualness of a cardigan becomes street style when paired with a slimming sling back heel. We didn’t make it through a pandemic to not wear heels in a casual way, did we? For bottoms there are really many ways to go but a pleated midi skirt in a scheen jewel tone feels very now. How does the shoulder bag contribute to the look? Just by having a bitty bag draped over your shoulder you add definition to either a shapeless or form-fitting cardi. Plus by holding your hand up to your bag strap you work your triceps ever so slightly.
Turtlenecks + Leather Trousers + Mules: If you caught me in a turtle in the 90s it was 100% not by choice. Let’s celebrate that turtlenecks have loosened over the years and are no longer so constricing by wearing them this fall with leather trousers and funky mules. A gold belt=extra flair. Since people tend to stick to darker colors in the cooler months a douse of texture is hella important! This is why we see velvet and leather come back each year. However, this go around leather skirts and pants could not be hotter! A straight-leg work appropriate trouser with a slit up the front of each ankle, will be the most sought out pant style to rock at all your holiday festivities. Trust me and invest now.
Cozy up and air out...at the same time!
