When you hear “Summer Concert Series” you’re probably picturing a country moment. Cowboy boots kicked off, dancing in the lawn on a blanket, with a pounder of light beer in hand. That’s a vibe and all but in the post-pandemic era, artists of all genres are touring big this summer! Read: recommendations on what to wear based on the type of music.
Country: Boots, cutoffs, and wide brim hats are your core pieces here. It's how you pull them together to create the look that’s baddie not basic. At this point, a “country show” can mean a lot of things. For a modern female country artist’s show, like Marren Morris I love swapping cowboy boots for a Victorian-style lace up boot instead. The heel height is the same but the vibe is elevated and more ladylike. I paired it with a girly ruffled tank in a tan and brown cow print. The sea of compliments I received tailgating and in line for the bathroom was almost overwhelming.
For more of a classic country lawn show, I went with my tall rustic riding boots with zipper chains around the ankle. These boots are so broken in, nothing that goes down in the lawn can harm them! Animal prints are becoming a big part of the country-western life and since I was seeing Shania Twain, I had to go with the signature That Don’t Impress Me Much cheetah. For longer concerts, a one shoulder top with one side “sleeved” and one side strapless provides comfort during the sunny openers and chilly encores. To avoid making a one note muddy-colored look, I added an oversized denim jacket. Because no one rocks embroidered faded denim like a country girl!
Reggae/Beach Concert: Soft shades, fun patterns, and linen are the trendier rasta of 2023. Going to one of these 5 million tiny music festivals popping up in beach towns? I’d wear this tie-back white and lavender seashell dress (Or the like.) with flip-flops that can easily be kicked off. Also, foodie prints that have gone to new levels of whimsical! This table-cloth seafood dress will no doubt be featured on the blog more than once. It’s such a conversation starter for a concert in the sand?! For a more casual option, go with a chunky knit crocheted tank, jean shorts, and salt spritzed hair.
Rock: Leather pants and a crushed velvet tee kill it like The Killers. Hot tip: always go pants for concerts where you know you'll be jumping and head banging like a maniac to mitigate wardrobe malfunctions. And tip #2: cool jackets and party hair are a must! The end.
Dance: For dance-y music that does not require rave-girl chic, opt for print mixing in two distinct shades. Black and white is your classic option however, two-tone with colors opposing each other on the wheel are now. Go with the silhouette that flatters you best!
Pop: Pop is the fashion-forward of music. So it's the time to experiment with “of the moment looks” and new color combos!
Red & black. No matter the time of year. Or which pop artist you’re seeing. Or the country for that matter. I saw Maggie Rogers in Berlin, Germany and wore a tulle-trimmed balletcore tank top contrasted with a red snake mini skirt for grit. I iced the cake with a spiky lightning bolt chain.
