Indoor Jackets

Each day I fall for this jacket over and over again.

It's only natural to do a closet cleanse at the beginning of a new year. But this year I might be doing the reserve and adding to my gallery of clothing. Because, you know what? I deserve a fun coat and so do you!

Coats have never been more in. People laugh when I say that but it’s so true! A coat or a jacket, or a shacket…whatever you want to call it used to be worn purely for warmth. For 2022 designers have done their due diligence and now have many lightweight jacket options for indoor times to choose from. These cool girl coats aren’t an afterthought but rather the focal point of the look. That’s the key difference to note.

They are also very easy to wear. Create a mindless outfit that feels intentional, by swapping your worn out cardigan for a coat that one would traditionally describe as a “spring jacket.” There is some practicality to this indoor coat trend as well. (Always great to hear!) A bomber jacket, varsity jacket, denim jacket or the like, typically has a very short season because weather these days is very rarely mild. For the rest of winter, make your jacket fleece lined by wearing a sweater under it. Add a fuzzy beanie, your favorite jeans and boots and call it a ‘fit.

Add a thick sweater under a thin jacket to make it fleece-lined!

Now that you’re on board, let me go back and define the concept of Cool Girl Coats. (You know, in case you have a separate tab up right now for online shopping.) Grandfather inspired in silhouette, celeb inspired in pattern. I am hoping everyone has grandfathers like mine that would offer me an Old-Spice-infested collared, nylon, zip-up jacket whenever I was cold. In my experience these coats usually had a cuffed sleeve, were semi water resistant and were in a bland hue like tan, light gray, or sage. AND always had pockets that seemed to never end? A boxy men’s oversized vintage look is the ideal silhouette for your new coat.

Make it work for the hot, new 2022 you by selecting this classically-shaped jacket in a fun all over print. You can have a full blown scavenger hunt on my tabloid jacket! It has more personality than most of your coworkers and looks killer with a velvet dress and tights or an old sweatshirt, jeans, and Docs. Other print options to drool over include but are not limited to: old school sports memorabilia, ticket stubs, bandanna paisleys, a cityscape, or for the less reckless: a romantic floral. Pop or flatten the collar.

2022 will not be about getting rid of things aimlessly but, learning to cherish the new pieces we have - beyond their trendiest season. Reinvent the wheel. When you find an item you fall in love with: keep it.

A natural spotlight.
