Bow and arrow, bow of the ship, Bow Wow, and Bowie. Oh my garland are there a lot of bows in our lives! But winter 2019-2020 demands more of the iconic curved strand! Chanel, Fendi, Kate Spade, and Carolina Herrera have adorned their collections (Clothing, handbags, shoes, accessories...you name it!) with bows worth bowing down.
Bows on Top: When Chanel adds a bow in line with your breastbone it cinches everything up into a nice ladylike package. A bow as the centerpiece of the chest provides shape, texture, and 3D attitude all in one. When Carolina Herrera (or you know, Plato’s Closet) adds a bow to the spine of a blouse or LBD, a flirtatious mini bustle springs up. To make this glamorous look more daytime, seek a top with a bow placed on your mid-back.
Any shirt that frees the shoulder blades to cut out is a way to show skin without the risk of overexposure. Bitty shoulder pad bows fit Versace’s more is more mantra. Slide that bow up to the side of the neck and you’ll get one of my favorite ways to wear a bow on a shirt. Loosely tie the bow to allow long ribbons to cascade down the trellis that is your body.
Bows as Icing: Bows have been a little sprinkle in a girl’s wardrobe since the days of mall Santas and uncomfortable JCPenney’s family portraits. Wear it like a girl. The term “black tie affair” was coined by a man’s most commonly worn tie to signify formality: the bowtie. Wear it like a man.
With ponytail scarves everywhere, it’s only a matter of time we started looping them into bows! In 2019 we are all about being comfortable thus, our bow selection is softer than ever before! Velvet scrunchies with bendable bows on them are the way to go. Personally, I haven’t gotten into the scrunchie craze just because I feel like I’ve already done that and the scrunchie hasn’t evolved enough in the last 20 years for me to get excited about it again...until knots were on ‘em. Rewind to 2012 when I went hard in the Forever 21 accessories department. Since my style is very girly, several bows made it through the checkout line - all of which were on hard barrettes with visible glue. Pass.
Baublebar, known for their maximalist earrings, has the most jolly clips, bobby pins, and headbands. All littered with Christmas present bows. Don’t ask me how or why but, a woman in a girlish embellishment makes for sophistication.
Bow Bag: A less in your face way to wear a bow is on your bag. Tie a scarf onto the handle or clip one onto the strap of your purse. Kate Spade is a huge believer in the bow bag however, this bucket bag is from Nordstrom's, sealed with a bow for closure.
Heel to Bow: For footwear resist the gaudy stylings of Betsy Johnson...it won’t be as cute or as funny as you think your purchase will be out of the store. Instead go with a timeless black pump of your height preference with a bow knotted on the heel of the heels. These will be your new go-to heels because they are a basic piece made trendy.
A Bow Tie Affair: Now to the traditionally masculine side of the bow. At this point, you know it’s tough for me to go anywhere without a necklace. In lieu of knotting a stringy choker around your neck like 2017, opt for an elegant black bowtie! Like your yoga instructor, I like to provide options. Leave your bow tie untied and draped around your neck like you’ve had one too many Old Fashions Cosmopolitans, in the coolest way. Bow ties are for the most daring of women. If you need a muse Janelle Monae is to bowties as Katy Perry is to cherry Chapstick. The poster child.
No matter which way you decide to wear bows, keep in mind they are best worn while eating cookies!
You know me love the bows!
